Cleanliness inspections by means
of through-flow air extraction

according to VDA 19.1 (2015) / ISO 16232:2018

Particle contamination in air-conducting components, e.g. components in the intake tract of engines, can affect the function in air and intake systems during operation due to their kinetic energy or even damage areas in the system. The cleanliness inspection of air-conducting components is therefore of particular importance and should be carried out as realistically as possible with air throughflowing. Particle collection by means of air throughflow also enables the testing of systems with air filter elements that cannot be sampled with liquid media. Even geometrically complex shapes (internal cavities, undercuts, etc.) are circulated with air as in real operation and the dissolved particles are drawn along in the air flow and are not deposited in the component in an undefined manner. Due to the adaptation of the components to the flow-through test stand, particle transfer from the non-relevant outer surfaces is reliably avoided and is an absolutely reproducible extraction procedure due to the test stand design.

Decisive for the extraction procedure is the adaptation of the components in the flow-through test stand with component-specific adaptations. CleanControlling has the specific knowledge and experience for the design of component specific, flow optimized adaptations. With the use of the CAD data of the component, the design, manufacturing and archiving of the test stand adaptations is carried out, which enables short-term repeat tests.

Particle extraction is performed by means of primary extraction in the flow-through test stand with separation of the particles on the primary filter. With the secondary extraction, the particles are then transferred by liquid extraction from the primary filter to a microscopically capable anaysis filter and then passed on for microscopic analysis.
